Peter Szendy (Paris, 1966) is a philosopher and musicologist. Currently, he is a professor at Brown University and a music advisor to the Paris Philharmonic.
In his essays, he criticizes listening and its history, in particular its relationship with power. His thinking - above all political - proposes a different way of listening, reading and looking, as he explores the complex relationships between music, image, writing and power.
He has published numerous essays, including: Listen. A history of music lover's ear (2003), Great Successes. The philosophy in the jukebox (2009), Deep in an ear. An aesthetic of listening (2015), A force of points. The experience as a score (2016).
