Emilio Calandín (Valencia, 1958) was born into a family in which Art is a regular companion in everyday life: sculpture, painting, literature, theater and music are present in their daily lives, and they grow among them. He began his musical studies with his mother, pianist and music theory teacher, and finished them at the Superior Conservatories of Valencia and Alicante. Attend composition courses both in Spain and abroad taught by personalities of composition, direction and performance such as Luis de Pablo, Cristóbal Halffter, Tomás Marco, Carmelo Bernaola, José Luis Temes, Pedro Esteban, Leo Brouwer and Helmut Lachenmann, among others. His contact with the Valencian composers José Báguena Soler and Francisco Llácer are determining factors in his aesthetic evolution, especially with the latter, with whom he will have a long relationship that transcends the roles of teacher and student. He has obtained various scholarships, highlighting the one granted by the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs to reside at the Academy of Spain in Rome. It has a catalog of more than 80 works of various characteristics and backgrounds, many of which are registered on CD and edited, and are the result of commissions received from national and international institutions and interpreters. Currently, it is part of the faculty of the Conservatorio Superior de Castellón, belonging to its composition department. It is frequent to see him present in forums for the dissemination of newly created music, either as a lecturer or as a composer.
